During Lakehead's 1965 convocation ceremonies, class president Roy Piovesana stepped onto the stage to receive his Honours Bachelor of Arts in History. Fifty years later, during Lakehead's 2015 convocation, Roy was made a Fellow of Lakehead University.
Roy completed an MA in 1970 – becoming Lakehead's first Master of Arts in History grad – and subsequently taught history at Westgate Collegiate and Hammarskjold High School for 34 years. He's been an active member of Thunder Bay's arts and heritage community and is a respected historian specializing in Canadian and religious history. Roy is also the archivist/historian for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Thunder Bay and the president of the Institute of Italian Studies - Lakehead University.
Angelo Orsi is an exceptional community-minded individual who has been extremely dedicated to the growth of a healthy, vibrant City of Orillia. As one of the principal drivers of Lakehead University's campus expansion to 500 University Avenue, Angelo's commitment was key to the campus's early success. His advocacy as the Mayor of Orillia (2010 – 2014) set the stage for regional support for Lakehead's Orillia campus. Whether addressing Lakehead students on campus, or citizens on the street, Angelo's conviction resonates while making everyone feel welcome in the community.
