Yes, Lakehead University Magazine has gone digital.

Actually, back issues of this Magazine have been available online since 2004 and we know that many of our readers prefer to read the digital version. It's accessible. It's searchable. And it saves paper. Plus, the digital version contains more editorial content than the print version – Alumni news and information that is "fit to print, but just won't fit" in the print version.

Now, for the first time since the publication began, we are asking you if you would prefer to read the online version exclusively. If you say yes, you will receive all future issues by way of an email notification with a link to the Magazine. And, if you register your choice before September 25, 2012, your name will be entered into a draw to win a new Apple iPad courtesy of Lakehead University.

Why the emphasis on digital?

First of all, when we surveyed our alumni by email recently, approximately 90% of those who responded said they would prefer to receive the digital version.

But it's also about costs and where we are investing our dollars. Every year, two issues of Lakehead University Magazine are mailed to more than 30,000 alumni households. And every year, with each new graduation class, more than 2,500 names are added to our Magazine mailing list!

Seventy-five percent of the total cost of producing and distributing the Magazine is taken up by printing and postage and these costs are increasing as we grow. Could this money be better spent elsewhere? Could it be invested in student programming or used to expand our communications in new and innovative ways? We think so. But we need your help to make this change happen.

The Choice is Yours – Digital or Print?

We are asking if you would like to read the Magazine online or whether you would prefer to continue to receive a printed copy.

Let us know by going online ( to register your choice. Do this before September 25, 2012 and you could win a new Apple iPad.

If we don't hear from you by the deadline, your name will be removed from our print mailing list. However, if at some time in the future you change your mind, simply contact Alumni Relations and ask that your name be added to the print mailing list.
